Eight of Swords upright

The Eight of Swords shows a blindfolded woman surrounded by swords, loosely bound, standing in shallow water. She looks trapped, yet the bindings are slack and there is a gap in the swords. This card describes feeling stuck, powerless or boxed in, often by fears and beliefs rather than real barriers. Ask which limits are genuinely fixed and which you have simply accepted. The way out may be closer than you think. Take the blindfold off by questioning your assumptions and seeking another viewpoint. One small brave step can begin to loosen the knots.

Eight of Swords reversed

Reversed, the Eight of Swords suggests you are breaking free. You may be seeing your situation with fresh eyes, recognising that the restrictions you felt were less solid than they seemed. Confidence is returning, and with it a sense of choice. This is a good time to challenge old self-limiting stories, such as I am not clever enough or it is too late for me. Speak kindly to yourself and celebrate each small freedom you claim. If you still feel trapped, reach out for help. Others can often see the exit even when you cannot.
